Surfaces & applications

Industrial paint preparation; brush and roller application; spray viscosity adjustment; compatible tool cleaning

Adjust viscosity for the application method

Brushing and rolling generally need less thinning than spraying. The reference additions are 10–20% for brushing or rolling and 30–40% for spraying. Add gradually while stirring and assess flow and atomization instead of adding the full quantity at once.

Compatibility comes first

Use this thinner only with a compatible coating system. The name universal does not establish suitability for every resin, water-based paint or two-component formulation. Follow the selected paint’s thinning instructions, which take precedence over general reference percentages.

Mix paint components before final thinning

For a two-component paint, maintain the specified base-to-hardener ratio. Combine those components as directed, then adjust application viscosity with the compatible thinner. Thinner cannot replace hardener or correct an incorrect mixing ratio.

Tool cleaning

Use for cleaning brushes, rollers or spray equipment only where the coating and equipment materials are compatible. Clean before paint cures inside the equipment. Keep used cleaning solvent separate from fresh thinner and coating stock.

Pack selection and handling

Small bottles suit trials and occasional coating work; larger packs suit regular industrial use. Keep containers tightly closed, provide ventilation, avoid ignition sources and use the product safety information for handling and waste disposal. Share the paint type and application method when requesting a supply recommendation.

Application process

Build the right protection system

  1. 01

    Identify the paint

Check the resin type and the paint’s specified compatible thinner before mixing.

  2. 02

    Prepare the coating

Stir the paint and, for a two-component system, mix base and hardener at the correct ratio first.

  3. 03

    Add gradually

Measure a small quantity, add while stirring and check viscosity. Adjust for the brush, roller or spray equipment without excessive thinning.

  4. 04

    Test and clean

Apply a test area to check flow, coverage and drying. Clean compatible tools promptly after work.

Practical answers

Frequently asked questions

Can it be added to water-based coatings?

Only if that coating specifically permits it. Water-based products normally use their own specified dilution method, often clean water.

Should every spray paint receive 30–40% thinner?

No. This is a general reference range for compatible products. The particular paint specification and spray equipment determine the correct amount.

Can thinner replace hardener?

No. In a two-component coating, the base-to-hardener ratio must remain correct.
