Selection & application guide
Water-Washable Vehicle Paint and Peelable Wheel Film: Choosing the Removal Method
Water-washable vehicle paint and peelable wheel film serve different removal requirements. Washable paint is selected for water-assisted removal. Peelable wheel coating forms a film intended to be lifted and peeled from a compatible wheel finish.

Define how long the colour is needed
A temporary indoor display, a short promotional activity and routine road use create different exposure conditions. Include rain, washing, heat and the time before removal in the discussion. A washable coating's relationship with water is part of its intended function, so the display environment matters.
Choose a format for the area
Liquid or bucket-packed products can suit larger surfaces where application equipment is available. Aerosols can be practical for smaller decorative areas and trial work. Calculate the coated area and consider access, overspray control and the required appearance. Pack format alone does not establish whether a product is suitable for a particular body panel or wheel.
Protect the surfaces outside the job
For body work, identify trim, glazing, seals and damaged paint before starting. For wheel work, keep the application away from braking components and other surfaces outside the approved coating area. Follow the selected product's preparation and application information.
Agree a removal trial
Test both the appearance and the removal method on an inconspicuous area of the actual finish. Check the surface after removal under good lighting. For peelable products, film continuity affects handling during peeling; for washable finishes, include the water and cleaning procedure that will be available after the event. Send the vehicle or wheel finish, colour, area and exposure period with your enquiry.
Compare the four available products
Product format | Removal | Useful quantity reference | Application detail |
|---|---|---|---|
Full-body liquid | Water or wet wiping | About 5 m²/kg | 20–30 minutes surface dry; 40–60 minutes film formation |
Temporary aerosol | Water-assisted | About 2 m²/can/coat | Two or more coats; 2–4 hours between coats |
5 kg bucket paint | Water-assisted | 3–4 m²/L/coat | Two or more coats; 2–4 hours between coats |
450 ml wheel spray | Peel-off film | Establish consumption on the wheel trial | 15–20 cm spray distance; 10–20 minutes listed drying |
These figures belong to the listed products. Check actual drying and consumption on the surface being coated.
Avoid a kilogram-to-litre error
A pack marked 5 kg does not automatically contain five litres. The bucket product's coverage is stated per litre, while the full-body liquid uses a per-kilogram reference. Keep the unit with the value when estimating an order. If only mass and a volume-based coverage are available, establish the selected product's volume or density before calculating the number of packs. Aerosol coverage is per can per coat and also needs the number of coats.
Plan the end of the display before the beginning
Set aside the time and location for removal. A washable body finish needs access to the intended water or wet-wiping process; a peelable wheel finish needs an accessible film edge and careful inspection around contours. Include the cleaning method in the sample trial. If the display is outdoors, discuss rain and other water exposure before choosing a product whose removal mechanism relies on water.
Record the approved panel
Keep the original paint condition, selected colour, preparation, coat count, timing and removal result together. Photographs under similar lighting make colour or gloss changes easier to compare. Repeat the trial if the original finish changes, such as a repainted panel or a different wheel coating. This record is also useful for a distributor explaining the correct product distinction to customers.
